Turbine flowmeter is a velocity type flowmeter that measures the volume flow of a fluid by measuring the rotational speed of the fluid pushing the turbine blades. Its operating principle is based on the principle of conservation of fluid momentum moment.

Structure

  • Casing: used to house the internal components and protect them from the external environment.
  • Deflector: Used to direct the fluid and support the turbine so as not to change the angle of action between the fluid and the turbine blades due to the vortex of the fluid, thus ensuring the accuracy of the flow meter.
  • Support: used to support the turbine shaft.
  • Turbine: consists of a number of blades, its rotational speed is proportional to the average flow rate of the fluid.
  • Magneto-electric converter: Converts the rotational speed of the turbine into an electrical pulse signal.

Working Principle

When the measured fluid flows through the turbine flowmeter, the kinetic energy of the fluid acts on the turbine blades, causing the turbine to rotate. The rotational speed of the turbine is proportional to the average flow rate of the fluid. The turbine blades are equipped with magnets, or the turbine blades themselves are magnetic materials. When the turbine rotates, the magnet cuts the magnetic lines of force and induces an electrical pulse signal in the coil. The frequency of the electrical pulse signal is proportional to the rotational speed of the turbine, and therefore to the average flow rate of the fluid.

Features

  1. The accuracy is high, usually the measurement accuracy of liquid is ±1.0%, and the measurement accuracy of gas is ±1.5%. The measurement range is wide, up to 10:1.
  2. Allows a wide temperature range of the measuring medium, -25℃~+300℃.
  3. The pressure loss is small (about 1/4~1/2 of the orifice flowmeter), which is an energy-saving flow meter.
  4. The detection element is built in the vortex body and does not touch the fluid, ensuring high reliability, good signal-to-noise ratio, high sensitivity, and good zero point stability.
  5. The medium has strong adaptability and can measure liquid, gas, superheated steam, saturated steam, etc.
  6. Generally, compensation is not required when measuring liquid volume flow, and temperature and pressure compensation are required to measure steam mass flow and gas volume flow.
  7. No moving parts, wear-resistant, firm and simple structure, easy to maintain, and low cost of use.
  8. It is easy to install, and it can be installed horizontally, vertically and obliquely at different angles.
  9. A variety of structural forms are available, such as pipe segment type, plug-in type, flange type, flange-to-clamp type, etc.
  10. The caliber of the flow sensor is from DN15-DN300.
  11. Pulse signal output, or two-wire 4-20mA current signal output, with RS-485 interface, HART protocol, ModBus protocol optional communication function.
  12. The vortex flowmeter is widely used to measure the cumulative flow and instantaneous flow of liquid, gas and steam (including compressed gas). It is an ideal instrument for volume measurement in industries such as petroleum, chemical industry, metallurgy, urban water supply, and gas pipeline network.

Maintenance

In order to ensure the normal operation and measurement accuracy of the turbine flowmeter, it is necessary to maintain the instrument regularly. It mainly includes the following contents:

  1. Clean the dirt inside and outside the meter.
  2. Check the bearings for wear and replace them if necessary.
  3. Calibrate the meter.
